This is a note to let readers of my blog know that Peer Tutoring is getting up and running again for 2009.If you have any students in your department who would make good peer tutors please approach them and make the suggestion they might like to earn a few extra dollars by doing this. The following information can be given to potential peer tutors:
Peer Tutor Training 2009
If you want to be a peer tutor at Otago Polytechnic in 2009 you must enrol for a free training course. The pace at which you complete the training is up to you and designed to suit your own timetable. The best part is…you will begin tutoring and be paid before you complete the training. The pay rate for Peer Tutoring is $14.85 per hour and it looks very good on your CV. You must have a reference from a lecturer in your department to be a tutor.
To sign up for Peer Tutor training visit Sheena Roy in Student Services, ground floor, H block. She will give you a path of study and a letter to take to your department for a reference.
The Peer Tutor training is taught online through a Blog called “Students Tutoring Students” at the following URL:
The training is designed as a communication tool as well as a place to find resources to support your teaching. To participate in the training you must have access to a computer and be able to create your own blog for posting your reflections, comments, ideas and questions. To create a blog go to http://wordpress.com and follow their simple instructions. If you need help to do this make an appointment with me at the Learning Centre. Once your own personal blog is created send me a link either by email (Hlindsay@tekotago.ac.nz) or by posting it in a comments section of the course blog. If you know how, set up an RSS feed to this and other tutors’ blogs. Don’t worry, you will be taught to do this as part of the training later.
